Dream

I'll call this a sweet sweet dream xD because it's made out of everything sweet (well not 100% of it)
Good night! :3

my dream

Its my dream, to someday be a director of a featured film. Have my name in the credits of the big screen, while watching the movie with my beloved family and friends. I want them to be proud of me someday, and share the limelight. I want to make a great movie! One that people enjoy and will remember. Maybe someday it will come true. Yet for now, it remains a dream i am slowly climbing for ^ ^

Dream Spirit

Title: Dream Spirit
Duration: 35 minutes
Software: Photoshop CS3

When i saw the word 'Dream', this image immediately came into my mind. I'm not sure whether i should illustrate this but anyways it's done.

Until now, i'm dunno whether it's a guy or a woman. All i know is that it appears a few times in my dreams & it's all in white as you see above. I'm can't remembered how it really looks like but I do know it takes a form of a human. I doubt it's a ghost cuz i feel soothing when I see it so I consider it as some kind of a dream spirit.

This artwork also a test for my speed painting. Yeah, 35 minutes is still bloody long for this simple image. Using only airbrush tool with 30% opacity & 50% flow. XP

dream

I think this is one of the first caricatures of real people I've done.... It was fun :D

Susan Boyle from Britains Got Talent. I thought her first 'I Dreamed a Dream' rendition was great. Not so the other songs that followed.

4-5 hours Photoshop.

Dream of the Endless

Yes ladies and gentlemen, this is Morpheus a.k.a Dream from Neil Gaiman's acclaimed "Sandman" graphic novel series. Long overdue fan art ♥ ♥ ♥

Morpheus's a seriously moody bugger.
You'd think the Sandman would be some colorful dude pouring sand into lil' kiddies.
Nope. This guy means business.
Black kimono with flames at the hem.
Pale skin with eyes like the night sky.
He IS dream, and all dreamers walk in his realm.
He's a just and lonely monarch, and he's Endless - even Gods follow his rule.
Some say he's crueler than Death, his older sister.

Read more here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dream_%28comics%29
Morpheus copyright Vertigo, Neil Gaiman, et al.

I've been seriously influenced with Sandman's rich storyline and powerful characters. This series single-handedly changed the way I think and feel about stories.
Now, I dream of creating my own stories one day soon.
May they be as rich and powerful.
May they give my readers the worlds as I found in the Sandman
So, thank you Mr.Gaiman, would like to hang out with you one day XD

Mh: wow! ure the first to submit! tats new XD Of all your work, this is realli realli nice! sweet, simple, colorful & beautiful illustration. Soo cute that it would look sweet in a babies room :) Loved your background da most!! XDXD keep up this illustration style!

Nat: woah!! may ur wish come true :) but this looks like a horror cinema. I thgt ure shwing horror show XP The mood feels scary too. Mus be the colors.

Y'ng: AFter seeing nats art n i scroll down n saw y'ng one, im like i jus got freak out XD
An almost similiar mood as nat XD Dream spirit..he looks scary...but yeah ur speed painting is good.i can feel the spiritual feel in this.

Daphne: I LIKED THIS!!! i had the same idea as urs but i didnt drew it cos i had to add a clock to punishment. LOL caricature me daphne!! teach me hw to caricature too!! i alwez wana do tat! U did a great job here. she looks comical LOL!! damn like ur painting skill, looks great as a post card! soo loving this one :)

Sara: ooo sweet-doh!! wow! i love this illustration~ i hardly use illustrator to do art. Maype i shud giv it a shot. Seeing u n mh doin it tempts me to try it too. I got no critque in this cos its sweet n nice. Brings smile to my face seeing it (mh one also XP)

Adam: umm...okay..not much comment thou since its nt colored. But nice one thou. thou i dun quite get the idea of this art.

Reeis: sandman? oooo he looks soo pale like he's sick. But it does hav a jap feel to it. But i tink u need to work on the sand cos they dun seem like fine sand. More like cloth o sumthin wit some stain on it. umm im not so sure if white bg suits these piece thou.

Me: Time is getting shorter in Sg. Ive gotta do sumthin instead od just sayin it!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Mh: Congrats on handing up first! yay! This is just sooo cute! Love the colours that u used here. Can i hv a chocolate donut. XD

Nat: May your dreams come true gurl! I like the way you portray the message in the artwotk. But the only setback i hv for it is the mood. It made this dream more of a knightmare look, if u know wat i mean. ^^

Daph: This is pretty good for first time caricature! U gotta love Susan Boyle! I only can comment on her arm. It looks like a lil off, as if she broke her arm. But overall, this is awesome! Wanna see more of this! XDDD

Sara: nice! nice! nice! love the composition! Can i hv the lollipop pls! Heehee! it's great to hv such 'sweet' dreams every night. XP

Adam: Haha! as u said, still look like old style. Would look nice if you can ink it or put a nice background for this piece. XD

Yin: I felt that for sure u r gonna draw him for this theme. And u did! LOL! I see that your colouring has improve here. YAY! Anatomy wise still can improve further, it's gettin better. I feel that the colours doesn't seem to blend nicely here. Maybe you should keep his skin colour grey instead of blue. ^^

Kelly: your grim reaper sooo cute! i like the scythe design. Yeah, i think all of our time is getting shorter. Even for me. But nonetheless, as u said, we still got to do something instead of sayin it. XD

Yes congrats to May Hooi on being first to submit this time and congrats to Kell for being first to comment! XD

**Comments**

@May Hooi : It is indeed very cute and sweet. I love the brushed background contrast to the vector images in front and feel it would certainly do well as a header or footer :D

@Nat : We're all looking forward to this dream of yours coming true ^^ Can't really say much about your illustration except that it seems quite an old school cinema :)

@Y'ng : Your dreams feel kinda scary that way o.o Nicely done for the shadows around the nose and mouth, but I'm wondering if the eyes are a little far apart. Just a smidgen :)

@mine : ... =..=

@Sara : Dayum I want your dreams, they look very yummy. You've always got a way with vector colours and cutesy stuff Sara. I love this though I'd like to see some gingerbread houses spotting the hills :D

@Adam : Indeed, it still looks like the old style. The expression on the top body which suppose to be smiling also looks kinda evil. Better to not point the eye brows downward if you want a happy innocent smile?

@Reeis : I certainly like the texture and treatment you've done to the cloth and the sand that's flowing from his palm. However, there's something to be said about how you've arranged his hand and arm.... It seems a little unnatural and stiff. Maybe stretching the arm a little away from the body might help.

@Kell : Firstly, I can't see the clock in your illustration, sorry >< I can't really see "Dream" in it either. Don't get me wrong I love it, but I feel needs some more elements that ties it to the theme :)

**Replies**

@Kell : Thanks!! I don't know how to teach le, but what I did was that before I started on this one, I looked at lots and lots of different caricatures of people. Don't really know how to explain, but it's all really exaggerated. You have to pay more attention to parts that make the persons face noticeable. Like for this one, the shape of the eye, general silhouette of her hair, and shadows around her chin/neck area :)

@Y'ng : Her arm looks broken?? D: Tell me whereeeee. I feel bad cause I didn't spend much time at all on her body, just the face XD

mh: cute as always XD i love your colourscheme, also very "sweet". the moon really resembles a banana for some reason hahaha, that's what makes it much cuter XD I think if u develop more this idea, u could be better. one day maybe you can just sit down and play with it more, and have fun with it!

nat: why am i not surprised XD i like the feel of it, i could tell ur rushing, so cannot comment a lot technically coz i know ur busy. but good effort! looking forward to seeing something more refined once ur not that busy one day XD

y'ng: why am I reminded of yin's innaguy Reeis? LOL. nice speed painting! XD looked like u put a lot of time on it when actually u didn't haha.

daphne: i like!!! i can see u started to add more colours into the skintone, now it doesn't look so monotonous. and it really looks like her, so good job XD

adam: nice XD

reeis: OMG I LOVEEEE THISSSS i didn't know who Dream was, but THIS IS NICE OMG i love the colour scheme and the simplicityness of it. i also liked how you put your mind into composing ur pic. i would have liked that Morpheus moved to the left of the frame a bit more, so we can see the ends of his cloak (or whatever is at the end of his cloak haha). but great job!! :D

kelly: nice work as always, this definitely looks like it can be used as a children's book or some short story =D

Thanks Sara XD I've realized that if I go over it with the wrong colour, I CAN fix it... so now more adventurous!

@Me: Sara is right..the moon does look like a banana DX should have make it into a banana split!!! xD

@Nat: wooo....what a big dream! looking fwd to see it ;p the cinema looks abit abit ummm...creepy??

@Yng: Nice ghostly effect there. good job with the scary look. but i would not want to see this in my dreams xP

@Daphne: *thumbs up* x 10000000000000. this is realllllyyy awesome. although its caricature, but i can still see susan boyle's features in there and caricature is never easy!!

@Sara: Sweet dream FTW!!! xD i love this. this can be a bookmark or something *-*

@Adam: i bet u must be busy recently. its been ages since we see a coloured artwork xD c'mon colour colour!! :p

@Reeis: Nice drawing. proportion looks fine. not much to comment. oyaa...somehow this guy has a shinigami look xD

@Kelly: heheh last minute eh?? i like the idea of dream reaper. but i think the there are too much textures in it, it kinda swallow the little fellow on the right :p

Nothing XD cept signature, abit too obvious...hehe

The colours! <333 So very sweet!
I like the way u seperated the bottom with plain stripes. Somehow makes everything sweeter XDDD

The peoples...spend a little while more making their heads rounder la... >D
- Good -
Good use of texture. Color gets me thinking about those Noir films, I like. Need a writer?

- Y'ng -

The hair maybe?
- Good -
Interesting concept. Reminds me alot of one of my older works XD;;

- Daph -
- Good -
I LOLed so hard when I saw this! So cute! I could hear her sing XDDD Good exaggeration, I always did remember the lady for her small eyes and huge jowls.
- Fixes -
Arm. A little more darker shadows will put it in the foreground, instead of blending with the neck. Or did you intend to make it less obvious so we focus on the face instead?

- Sara -
- Good -
Another sweet one! Good job on the gradients! Glad you didn't stop at the shield one ^^ I especially like the white, white clouds and the little candy hanging from them. Quick! Turn this into a phone wallpaper or something!
-Also, thanks for tutorial link XD -
- Fixes -
Maybe the composition of the lollipops in the clouds? I imagine it would be good to see smaller lollipops fade into the distance. The Candy canes really show distance, but the lollies seem to be only in the foreground.

Color?
- Good -
Good consistency between both the character's faces. Nice hatching

- Meself -
Yesh! Flickr's stopped giving me headaches d XDDD

Reeis here, responding to your feedback ^^

- Kell -
Will work on the sand...any suggestions?
Yup, he's THAT pale in the original comics XD;
Here's the reference http://tinyurl.com/ykqjwlt

- Y'ng -
Will try grey. If it works out, will repost =)
Used blue cos that's what they use most often in the comics (apart from plain black).
And who else would I draw laa...?
On an extra note, this is the first time in a long time I got to do fan art.

- Daphne -
I agree with you. Was a tricky pose, was trying to show him letting the sand flow out of his hand. Maybe I'll try correcting the fingers and angle of the arm...
Thanks for comments on the color treatment! I really appreciate it as it was a b*tch in the first hour I tried it XD;

- Sara -
Oh, thanks for the love! XDDD must share Sandman with you. It's Neil Gaiman's breakthrough work(according to my sources). The end of his cloak's supposed to be flames

- MH -
Hehe, the author, Gaiman, did describe his clothing as a black kimono with flames at the hems. Now that you mention it, it DOES looks shinigami-ish...maybe it's cos of the heavy anime influence in my illustration style XD;

@Reeis : I was focusing on the details of the face :P
