Really sorry that my artworks are moving towards character designing rather than story illustration anymore. My schedule is getting tighter & tighter. Don't even hv time to think of a story! Since I'm also trying to improve my human anatomy & body proportion so I'll be going for this direction from now on.
I'm actually stuck with this theme. But after my parents took me to eat at Sushi Zanmai, for my birthday dinenr, an idea hit me! That's how I decided to design a uniform for japanese waitress of a Sushi Fast Food Restaurant. I would love to design the logo for the restaurant too but I really dun hv time at the moment. So this is the best I can do.
Originally was black & white, but finally decided to apply simple colour on it. Again I apologize that this is not one of my best works.

Simple speedpaint exercise.
From concept to finished product in under 3.5 hours.
Guy sees skater girl, scrambles to reach her across the ice.
Love at first sight
Personally love the way the colors, the textures of the ice and sky and
the overall storybook feel turned out.
Need comments on which part your eyes focuses on in this pic.
Peach miniskirts FTW! XD
Close up of the skaters my "Skates" artwork.
Simple speedpaint exercise. and yesh, Peach miniskirts FTW! XD

Here we see an 8-year old Griever, having his afternoon skate and enjoying his favourite Orange Popsicle, when it was suddenly interrupted by an unsuspecting victim..
And people wonder why he has a phobia for skating.
artist notes: let's just say I am giving my (incredibly annoying) scanner the cold shoulder. I planned for it to come out looking like this anyway, like as if you were looking at my notebook =D
Sketched with 2B mechanical pencil (as seen above), took a photo, and digitally coloured it using OpenCanvas4.5e Plus

Hope the loose translation of skateboard instead of just skates would be acceptable. Either way, those are Skate Fish! Hohoho
Bringing back my gravity defying character, Fusia, from 2007 [http://dainen.
A little bit of speed painting here and there and detailing on some parts... comments on the lighting would be appreciated =)

YEAHHH!!! ahahahaa! a chibi version of me posing with a skateboard. this is SO my trademark for those who know me well enough! XD
no i wasnt being lazy. yes i have been busy. yes i am aware the lines are messy. and yup colors are flat too. know what? i wanted it to be that way :) i'm tired of "always improving" concept and right now i just want to have some FUN and take a break. ^ ^ besides, i think this style suits the theme in My Way :P ur welcome to critic~ i'll still be with that mischievous smile on my face XD cheers!

Definitely not my best work, had a hard time with this theme.
Came out with this silly idea from a friend of mine, who made a birthday wish - "to NOT be single anymore" hahaha :p and that's how i came up with this (and im gonna upload this on fb and tag her muahahahahaha)

I gave up trying to think of something creative for this theme and just figured I'd go with something simple. I like drawing illusts that involve movement and flowy hair, so you get both. :)
Zoom up of the girl in case you wanna have a better view of her face and the textures I put into the shading.

Haha what happened to everyone's comments! I'll start =)
@Y'ng : I don't mind that you're veering towards character design. I love characters and you make nice stories out of them. That's certainly not a conventional clothing piece but what really caught my attention was the shading of the skirt. Somehow it seems perfect to me :) The skin tones need more blending I feel but overall good work!
@Reeis : Adorable stances there. The position of each character in regards to the background and each other don't add up slightly I feel. The blades don't align, if you know what I mean?
@Sara : I love the angle of photography here Sara :D Even though it's not part of the illustration. Your photography skills always amaze me! Griever looks so adorable and I like how you've gone and done the colours. Seems quite natural as if you've coloured it by hand and not digitally.
@mine : Mmm sucky hair...
@Nat : Some things never change XD No harm in having some fun here. I think there's more chance of improvement if one is not forcing themselves, ne?
@May Hooi : I think it's quite nice. I see what you're trying to do with the edges of the ring, but it doesn't really pull it off cause I can see the hard lines that come from the darker blue and white streaks. Very cute as always :)
@Maiki : Love the texture in the shadow! Very much a movement image :)

@Y'ng: Character design works too :P very nice design! i love her costume. would love to see this in modern japanese fast-food outlets in malaysia.
@Reeis: OMGAH can i have this as a wallpaper?? *_* the colours are so pretteh and soft. i really really like this style, loving it even more! the misty-ness, the cute idea behind it.... love! the only critique is she looks kinda angry hahaha, maybe you can fix her eyes sometime in the future.
@Daphne: is that supposed to be u? XD really looks like u hahaha. ermmm one critique is it took some time for me to realize the canyon is actually farther down. i wonder why is that? o_O other than that, i love how you executed this. the colouring is great :D i also love the fluidity of the characters, really feels like they're flying in the air. great job!
@Nat: heeeee this is cute! what makes it work are the colours you've used. would have liked it if you used thicker and darker lines to give it a nice contrast, but i know you'll still have that "mischevious smile" on ur face XP
@May Hooi: omg i love your style here!! kinda vector-ish but detailed at the same time so it's not flat. this could be used for some kind of cover for a korean/japanese comedy XD
@Maiki: HOLY CRABS AND LOBSTERS!! *A* the colouring is soooo good for this! i just love that you put textures into the shading. very detailed. so i absolutely love the treatment you've applied into this illustration.

@Daphne: hahaha yes I intended for it to look like I actually coloured it on my notebook :P

I'm shocked to see ppl commenting on Wings and not this! O.O Ah well... i hope that you all know wat you're suppose to do no matter how busy you are ya. (Note: I'll keep reminding this until i see everyone's comment up. ^^)
@myself: I feel her face is slightly distorted. heh. ^^;
@reeis: Again another sweet & romantic image from you! i bet seb has got something to do with this. LOL! As i said, work on your shading, outline & detail. it just might come out better. XD
@sara: This is really good! I love the way your portray this idea! Nice! Can you do more of this? Griever is sooo cute as a kid! ^^
@daph: This is sooo awesome! I also hv a flying manta rays artwork that i hv done last month for my apprentice homework! Coincidence? But I feel that you totally missed out the shadows in here. ^^;
@nat: Yup! this is sooo you! LOL! Can work on a lil on the shading & cleaner outlines. XD
@may: haha! so advertising! you should propose this on the dating online service. This is really a great idea! ^^
@maiki: I wanna see more of this! Just love the movement that you did for her hair & the skates. This is really one of my fav pieces of your work. XDDD

@Sara : Hahaha thanks XD I think it's mainly cause there's no real difference in the saturation and sharpness of each form in the picture >_> Didn't really think this image through, darn...
@Y'ng : Yeah my lighting's a little messed up XD Mmm I'll have to experiment more on atmospheric lighting and how to place it when there's light coming from all around.... Point out glaring mistakes? =P

maybe you could give a shadow on the rays around her. example, the one below her, put some shadow that she's flying above it.
March 19, 2010 at 3:47 PM
I can see how you see it, but she's not flying directly above it ^^;

Is it me or suddenly everyone stop commenting? o.O The only ones i see comment for all the themes is me, Sara & daph.

Sorry for the lateness, been busy and tired these few days...
@Yng: Nice character design. love the costume! hehe wonder if it can be used as a waitress uniform in a japanese restaurant. xD
@Reeis: Simple and nice. good job playing around with the layout and space. colouring looks good from far, but the close up one kinda "revealed" the messiness (or maybe that's the colouring style u are trying to achieve?)
@Sara: This is so cuteeee.... and i like the idea of putting ur drawing into a photograph. looks so lively~~~ weeee~
@Daphne: Woahhh...this is cool! the perspective is awesome. how i wish i can draw in different perspective (other than the usual front, back, side, 3 quarter)
@Nat: Hehe...last minute work?? but this is so u :p
@Maiki: Niceeeee *-* i dont know what to comment, your work is always so niceeee
